Disaster Relief for the People of Burma
May 2008: IMS has very close ties with the Burmese people — our founders, as well as many other IMS teachers and retreatants, have received the Buddha's precious teachings from revered meditation masters within this ancient Buddhist tradition.
In the wake of the recent devastating cyclone in Burma, we are moved to encourage your support of international emergency relief efforts currently underway. One such organization providing disaster relief is the Foundation for the People of Burma (FPB). This group has been working closely with specific communities in Rangoon and southern Burma for many years and is now rapidly responding to the situation in these areas.
Donations can be made via the FPB website (www.foundationburma.org) or by check or money order to the Foundation for the People of Burma, 225 Bush Street Suite 590, San Francisco CA 94104. For questions, please call (415) 217-7015.
The Situation in Tibet and Burma
March 2008: We at IMS are dismayed by recent violent events in Tibet and Burma and are inspired by the courage and lovingkindness of these countries' monks and nuns. Many revered Burmese monks have offered the dharma at IMS over the last 30 years and His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited us in 1979.
We send metta for a peaceful solution and wishes for the safety of all throughout Tibet and Burma. We are moved by His Holiness the Dalai Lama's statements regarding the situations in both countries and offer links here so that you can read them.
