Mindfulness, Insight, Liberation: The Foundations of Mindfulness-Based Modalities and Research (7 days)
January 24 – 31, 2015 (Saturday to Saturday)

This retreat is specifically designed for professionals involved in mindfulness-based modalities. Educators, clinicians and researchers engaged in teaching or training in mindfulness-based approaches are welcome to attend.
The course is an invitation to extend and deepen personal experience of insight meditation, which is rooted in the cultivation of mindfulness. In the company of peers and colleagues, retreatants will explore the Four Foundations of Mindfulness as taught in the Satipaṭṭhâna discourse given by the Buddha, the foundational teaching of all contemporary mindfulness-based applications. This is a profound teaching that encourages us to place the path of freedom and compassion in the classroom of our lives, nurturing a liberated and compassionate heart.
All members of this retreat’s teaching team are involved in training mindfulness-based professionals.
Each day will offer a sustained schedule of formal meditation practice (both insight and metta, the teaching of boundless friendliness), meetings with the teachers, talks and guidance, all within an environment of silence. A familiarity with formal practice is assumed.
An optional daily period of mindful yoga will be offered by Luis F. Sierra.
CE credits are available for Psychologists, Licensed Mental Health Counselors and Social Workers. An additional fee of $50 will be payable at the end of your retreat when you receive your certificate.
Psychologists: The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This course offers 25 hours of credit.
Licensed Mental Health Counselors: The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP™) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy (Provider #6048) is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. This retreat is approved for 25 clock hours. It is also applicable for Commonwealth of Massachusetts Counseling/Allied Mental Health and PDP accreditation.
Social Workers: This program has been approved for 25 Social Work Continuing Education hours for relicensure, in accordance with 258 CMR. Collaborative of NASW and the Boston College and Simmons Schools of Social Work. Authorization Number D 61679.
Christina Feldman is an IMS guiding teacher and co-founder of Gaia House in England. She has been teaching insight meditation retreats since 1976 and has recently been involved in the dialogue between cognitive therapies and Buddhist practice. Her books include Compassion and The Buddhist Path to Simplicity.

John Peacock has taught meditation for almost 30 years. He currently teaches Buddhist Psychology at Oxford University in the MBCT masters program. He is also Associate Director of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre and is a member of Gaia House's Teacher Council.

Chris Cullen trained as a dharma teacher with Christina Feldman. He teaches mindfulness courses through the Oxford University Mindfulness Centre, including on-going courses for MPs in Parliament in London. Chris co-founded the UK-based Mindfulness in Schools Project.
Yuka Nakamura has practiced Buddhist meditation since 1993 in the Theravada, Dzogchen and Zen traditions, and is currently being trained as a teacher by Fred von Allmen. Living in Switzerland, she works as a psychologist and teaches Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
