In the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we recently made the difficult decision to remain closed through the end of the year. During this time of evolution and transformation, the tools of mindfulness provide stability and support. As we forge ahead with clear eyes and open hearts, three insights have emerged:
Our community is strong. Despite the uncertainty of the times, and the stress and suffering that are present for so many, patience, compassion, and generosity have been abundant. Our shared ethical commitments have strengthened our resolve to serve the dharma and all seeking freedom.
Our community is connected. The dharma is not bound by the confines of the meditation hall. During this time we are apart, we are thankful for the ability to provide meaningful online retreats and events with our beloved teachers. Since the end of March, 6,000 people have participated in virtual offerings that support and heal. We hope you are nourished by these opportunities to connect to your practice and to sangha, our precious community.
Our community is generous. Like all nonprofit institutions that rely on the generosity of supporters to achieve a mission, IMS is facing the unprecedented social and economic impact of an extended closure. We are full of gratitude for the many compassionate contributions of our community since we first closed our campus three months ago.
We hope you will join us in protecting and preserving IMS by making a gift today. Your generosity will help share the dharma in profound new ways, so that the teachings of Early Buddhism may continue to transform lives and, at this poignant moment in our country, create space for a more just, equitable, and compassionate society to arise.
Please, if you’re able, consider making a tax-deductible donation today. Your gift will lend us much-needed strength so that IMS can be here for you and all beings now, and in the future.
